SPACE FALL. A video installation created in collaboration with the British filmmaker Matt Hulse for the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend 2018

SPACE FALL. A video installation by Matt Hulse and Julia Zinnbauer

In the context of the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend 2018 the British filmmaker and photographer Matt Hulse and I developed a video installation. Together we shot a video on the Worringer Platz in Düsseldorf, a large square that is said to be the ugliest and dirtiest area of the whole city. Our aim was to find beauty in this space as well as to articulate a general love for neglected spaces. Part of our collaboration was also a poem that Matt Hulse derived from a fictitious written conversation between us:

such beauty in this place
canopied by dark skies
full of sparkling
distant stars
right here
there is love

The installation named SPACE FALL was to be seen in the glasshouse located on the Worringer Platz during the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend from February 18th to February 20th 2018.

More information about our collaboration you can find in the opulent article by Thomas Frank for the Westdeutsche Zeitung and also on my blog.

Invitation to the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend

SPACE FALL - A collaboration with Matt Hulse in the Glasshouse on Worringer Platz, a groupshow in Flingern 15 and "Neighbourhood" in WP5

THIS was a moment I will never forget in my entire life: Matt Hulse presenting SPACE FALL at the press conference of the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend at the Haus der Universität

I have the great pleasure to invite you to the seventh edition of the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend, that is going to take place from Februrary 16th to Februrary 18th. To my delight I am going to take part in the festival in more than one way. First of all I was invited to show some of my concrete-and-granite-short-films and also some photos of my architectural expeditions within the groupshow at the studios of Flingern 15 (on Ackerstraße 15).

Then I got more and more involved into a collaboration with the British photographer and filmmaker Matt Hulse (Link). Some first space-age-oriented comments on Instagram soon developed into a secret project, a mission that led us into a very mysterious area of the city. The film that came into being while exploring the territory is all about lights and reflections and beauty in a very wild urban surrounding. "SPACE FALL" will be presented in the glasshouse located on Worringer Platz during the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend and I am more than happy about being part of it. Videos and photos by Matt Hulse will also be on display in the exhibition entiteled "Neighbourhood" in WP5, right on the other side of the street. More information about the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend you can find here: Link.

Opening hours:

16. Februar, 18.00 – 21.00 Uhr
17. Februar, 12.00 – 20.00 Uhr
18. Februar, 12.00 – 18.00 Uhr
