PRISENTE PER SAN ROCCO - Progetto per la processione di San Rocco a Gibellina nell'Agosto 2026

 

In January 1968, a severe eartquake destroyed several towns in the Belice Valley in Sicily, including the medieval town of Gibellina. On the initiative of Ludovico Corrao, then mayor of Gibellina, in the following years the town was rebuilt, a few kilometers from its original location and in a completely new form. By relocating Gibellina, Corrao connected the town to the railway line and the motorway. Above all, he had the idea of turning Gibellina into a town dedicated entirely to art and modern architecture, without losing its cultural roots.

One of these traditions is the annual procession for San Rocco, the patron saint of Gibellina, which takes place each August. At the procession the statue of the saint is being carried through the streets of the town and in the 1980s and 90s it was even accompanied by long embroidered and appliquéd textile works. These so-called "Prisenti" were designed by contemporary artists like e.g. Carla Accardi, Pietro Consagra and Alighiero Boetti.

As in my own artistic work the connection between textiles and modern architecture plays a core role, I am more than fascinated by the history, the art and the architecture of Gibellina.

Thereofore, in summer 2026 am going to take part in the procession for San Rocco with a textile work created by myself. In order to research for my project and to get in touch with the residents of Gibellina, I visited the Sicilian town several times, including the processions in August 2024 and 2025. In the trailer you can get a glimpse of the whole project, that will consist of a film that documets the the whole story as well as my textile work itself. The blue and red dress I amwearing in the video refers to the ceramic works by Carla Accardi at the town hall of Gibellina.

APOLLO
Kostüm, Video, Performance von Julia Zinnbauer 
Düsseldorf 2024/2025 

Zurzeit wird in Düsseldorf auf der Königsallee 106 das Apollo-Hochhaus abgerissen. Ursprünglich befand sich auf dem Grundstück am südlichen Ende der Königsallee das 1899 eröffnete Apollo-Theater, eine Mischung aus Vergnügungspark und Varietétheater. Obwohl es nach seiner Zerstörung im Zweiten Weltkrieg wieder aufgebaut und bis 1959 als Kino genutzt wurde, musste das Apollo-Theater im Jahr 1966 dem Bau des Apollo- Hochhauses weichen

Im Apollo-Hochhaus befand sich von November 1967 bis Juni 1973 die Verwaltung der Firma 3M. In dem 17-stöckigen Gebäude waren etwa 800 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt. Im Jahr 1951 hatte das amerikanische Unternehmen in Apollo Hochhaus eine erste Auslandgesellschaft gegründet, zunächst in Reisholz, dann 1956 auf der Immermannstraße und zuletzt 1967 auf der Königsallee. Hier wurde 1971 auch die Zulassung reflektierender KFZ-Kennzeichen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland gefeiert:

Mit seiner Geschichte, seiner Gestaltung und den dabei verwendeten Materialien war für mich das Apollo-Hochhaus in Düsseldorf der ideale Ausgangspunkt, ein Kostüm zu entwerfen und anzufertigen und vor Ort damit ein Performance-Video zu drehen. Darin geht es um Licht, Bewegung und Architektur. Das Kostüm, das aus silbernem Reflektormaterial besteht, bezieht sich auf die Geschichte und Architektur des Gebäudes, es besteht aber auch eine Verbindung zu dem silbernen Anzug, den Heinz Mack in seinem Sahara-Projekt und dem Film "Telemack" trug.  Direkt neben dem Apollo-Hochhaus steht vor dem Gebäude der Deutschen Rentenversicherung ein Skulpturen-Arrangement von Heinz Mack, das ebenfall in meinem Video zu sehen ist.

Der zweite Teil des Videos wurde in Neuss gedreht, in dem Waschbetongbäude, in das die Firma 3M in den 70er Jahren zug, als das Apollo-Hochhaus keinen Platz für Expansion mehr bot. Auch dieses Bürogebäude wird gerade abgerissen.  Mit meinem Video verabschiede ich mich feierlich von beiden Häusern.

Das Kostüm, das ich mein Video entworfen habe, bezieht dich auf die Geschichte der beiden Gebäude als ehemalige Firmensitze von 3M, aber auch auf Heinz Macks silbenen TELEMACK-Anzug.
